Frequently Asked Questions

2 Year Gain--Guaranteed!

Tell me about the guarantee.

Basic Guarantee Read the manual, watch the video and use the program. Think about how it is helping your student and see the progress being made for a full 30 days. If you do not believe that the program is of value to you, send it back. We will provide a full refund of the purchase price for any product returned within 30 days.  There may be a seal on the binder that must be intact for us to honor a return. The seal prevents the pages from being removed from the binder. If the seal is broken, please do not attempt to return the product.  The kit must be complete and in good, original condition, and include all your original lesson plan notes.

2 Year Gain Guaranteed If you choose to purchase the kit with the option that includes pre- and post-testing, we guarantee that your child will make at least a 2 year gain (age equivalence.)
To qualify for the guarantee:

1.  Your student must take the online, standardized pre-test.
2.  You must watch the video training and read the training manual.
3.  Administer a minimum of 35 hours of instruction with the student.
4.  Your student must take the online, standardized post-test.
5.  Return the 35 completed lesson plan pages with your progress notes.
6.  Return the entire ReadingFish© kit with the seal intact.

We will prorate your cost of the kit to the amount of the progress your child made.  If your child made 1 year of progress, we will return 50% of the total cost of the kit (including shipping.) Remember, we are averaging 3 years of gain for our students. Very few students make gains of less than 2 years.

Who can benefit from this program?

ReadingFish© is successful for students reading at a third grade level through adults.  Both struggling and average students can benefit. The student should be reading (decoding the words) at close to grade level and be at the 'reading to learn' level, not the 'learning to read' level. This is typically the third grade and above. If you have a student that does not quite meet these requirements, give us a call and we will talk with you about what might be appropriate for your student.

Can you tell me a little about the research behind the program?

I am ready to buy the ReadingFish© program. What do I do next?

Order Here or Call 1-866-670-9800 to purchase the kit.  If you are buying the kit with the 2 year guarantee, we will schedule the online reading test by phone. Following the testing, you will receive a written report with the results of the test which include your student's reading level, reading rate and reading accuracy as well as comprehension level and vocabulary score. The test will also ensure that we include the correct level of reading materials with the kit.

Tell me about the Online Reading Test.

This is a diagnostic reading test, administered by a trained test administrator. An appointment time needs to be scheduled with us. Just prior to the scheduled time you need to go onto the Internet and go to the website we assigned to you. We use an Internet conferencing application to administer the test live. At the scheduled time, a test administrator will call you on the phone to start the test. We use the phone for the voice portion of the connection, since the Internet connections typically clip the beginnings and endings of words. This means you must have both an Internet and a phone connection available at the same time. All the student responses are verbal. The test battery usually takes between 30 and 45 minutes. After the test, the administrator will score the test and email the results to you within 24 hours.

What do I learn from the Online Reading Test?

The test results provide you with a score for your student's reading accuracy, reading rate, reading fluency and comprehension. We also administer a vocabulary test to establish the student's level of vocabulary proficiency. These tests help us provide reading material that is appropriate for your student.  At the completion of the program, this same battery of tests will be administered (at no charge) to document your student's improvement.

I know my student needs this program. Why can't I just skip the test and buy the program?

You can, just Order Here.  However, if we do not administer the pre- and post-testing, we cannot provide the 2 year guarantee of improvement.  The testing ensures that we send you the appropriate level reading materials, and allows us to monitor the progress made by our students so we can improve the effectiveness of the program and refine the ReadingFish© program materials.

How much is the shipping?

Priority mail shipping charges, for shipping within the United States, are included in the price. We do not currently ship to foreign countries. If you would prefer a different form of shipping, just call.

How long is the program?

Most students will be successful with the program in just 35 hours. A few students will be able to gain the benefits of the program in as little as 30 hours. Some students will benefit the most from as many as 50 hours. The instructor needs to make some judgments about the student's proficiency at each stage of the program. The student needs a certain amount of repetition to reinforce the skills, but the student also needs to be challenged throughout the program. There are guidelines within the program to assist the instructor.

If my student agrees, can we do more than one hour per day?

Yes, and no. Our experience has been that the best results are obtained when the program is administered for one hour per day, 3 to 6 days per week. With this approach, most students complete the program in just 7 weeks, working 5 days per week. Some older students can accommodate 2 hours per day and have the program be successful. Younger students perform better at one hour per day.

My student is very busy with school and constant outside activities. Can we do the program just one hour per week?

No. We want this to be a rewarding experience for you and a successful one for your student. If you and your student are not able to commit to at least 3 hours per week, you should wait for a better time to begin the program.

I have a college-age student with weak comprehension skills. Will she benefit from ReadingFish©?

The program is effective for students of all ages. Older students and adults will generally progress through the initial stages of the program more quickly than younger students. More time will likely be spent by the older student on the meta-cognitive strategies portion of the program, which is more advanced.

If I have a problem when I am working with my child, is there help available?

With your kit you will receive a letter than includes your client identification number and a toll free number for support during our normal business hours. You will also have a priority email address available to submit your questions with a response given within 24 hours on normal business days. We are also developing a Client Section for our website that will have additional resources.

You end up with a lot of personal information about my student. What about privacy?

Since 1995, we have been working with students and safeguarding the information. We take privacy very seriously. We do not share names, addresses or test information with any outside persons or companies. For a complete explanation, please go to our POLICY page.
